Wintertime Reminders

Winter is a very difficult time for all creatures that live at the WSC. The survival of the animals and plants are dependent on the available resources in the area. The challenge then is to visit the area without disturbing natural setting.

So when visiting the WSC please be sure to:

  • Keep your dogs on leashes! Dogs are not part of the natural habitat. When dogs chase wild animals, they are causing these animals to use valuable energy unnecessarily. Dogs are not dependent on finding their own food for energy, it is given to them. However, the animals at the WSC have to depend on finding and catching food. Being chased by dogs is a needless expenditure of energy.
  • Keep your child off the ice on the wetland area. This is an educational area, it is not a playground. Walking on ice is very dangerous and is not allowed on the school's property.
  • Remind your child that paintball fighting is not allowed at the WSC. Paintball fighting is only legal at designated establishments.
  • Stay on the trails. When trails are snow covered it is difficult to see the trails. Please attempt to stay on the established trails at all times.

Help keep the WSC as a refuge for the native animals and plants of the area. It takes everyone watching and practicing good environmental practices to preserve one small wilderness area.
